Glastonbury Emerging Talent Contest my top 6
So this weekend has been spent trawling through the 200 entries on my playlist for the Glastonbury ETC. I would like to say that personally it’s been a pleasure to listen to all the entries. I blogged ten of the ones which caught my eye initially on Thursday evening but feel it’s only fair to let you all know early doors that I will be picking three from the six artists below. I will be running in depth profiles on all six over the course of the next couple of weeks. With all competitions like this there are winners and losers it’s the nature of the beast and after all we can only pick three from 200. So after much soul searching and repeated listens to a good twenty of so acts I can reveal we have narrowed it down to the following six. Again i would stress that we will not be making contact with any of the acts personally but would welcome your comments on them. I think you will all agree it’s going to be a difficult choice to pick the final three and it’s by no means cast in stone who we will pick !! I have listed the artists from A-Z below
Jim Lockey and The Solemn Sun
Website Here
Nicola Jayne
Website HERE
Noah
Website HERE
The Big V
Website HERE
The Thirst
website HERE
Verity Susman
website HERE
Would be great if you spread the love on these artists as i previously said it’s going to be a hard job to pick my final three but i hope you enjoy our shortlist. Our choices will appear first on the official Glastonbury website HERE sometime at the end of February.

Great selection of bands!! I have seen the thirst perform on several ooccasions and I can honestly say I have never seen a band as good as them! Their songs are refreshingly good, and they have infectious energy when on stage. They are deserving of this opportunity!!!
Thanks for your comment and keep spreading the word I’m very impressed with many of the entries to get down to the final six choices has been vey hard thanks for your feedback
Ive seen the thirst rock out on stage. Out of control!!!! They need to be there
all I can say is the thirst is out of this world music’ so uplift your self and enjoy it. “big up the thirst”
The Thirst are the all round complete band. Their songs are so creative with meaning. Their stage presence is so magnetic and fresh. 2013 is their year to shine and to receive their blessings. If they are not selected, Glastonbury will not be complete this year and a large section of visitors will be robbed of seeing pure talent in full effect
JL&TSS Every time! They work so hard and are BRILLIANT live!
LOVING the Thirst! Seen them perform many times and they always bring the fire!
NOAH bring something special. A complete stand-out in this line up. Everything about them captivates the soul and to hear them play live is to discover hope for new music and purpose. Have a listen to their latest original ‘Fires’

The Thirst Are Just So God Damn AMAZING!!!!!! Me And My Friends Would 100% Buy Tickets For Glastonbury If They Were Too Be There
I’d like too start of by saying too all the remaining 6 bands, well done for coming this far, you have all achieved something quite big.
But I must say……
I’ve never actually heard of “THE THIRST” until now, and I’ve just checked out more of there stuff, and there EP “LAUGH WITH THE SINNERS” and I’ve gotta tell you guys, I’m a huge fan already, also, there videos on youtube which show them rocking out, seems very vibrant, so I personally would love too see them live.
Personally The Thirst are doing it for me, but its down too preference, very good selection of bands tho
The Thirst are the best live band in uk right now would love to see them at glatonbury this year!!!
Many Thanks for all the love shown to the artists on this post so far and thanks for taking the time to visit our site please spread the word. I will be playing all the six artists in full on my radio show this Thursday between 8-10pm

The Big V are a very talented band and would be a credit to the Glastonbury line-up…watch these guys, they’re going places!
The Big V are a fantastic engaging band to watch live, I would certainly recommend anyone to go to a show or listen to their music. Each song unfolds through various different paths, whether it’s dark and mysterious or upbeat and cheeky! Defiantly a band to look out for!
All great selections! I’m doubtful I could make it this year but I’d love to. I’m excited to see The Big V on here and would very much recommend them to be chosen!
The Big V for me! Seen them several times, LIKE them alot
The Big V are really great
The Thirst are always guaranteed to entertain. You naturally find yourself, singing & dancing along. Their songs & personalities are contagious. Good luck boys!
I’ve seen the Big V a couple of times at Beautiful Daze and around the South West. They usually draw a pretty big crowd and play an eclectic and diverse set. Would certainly recommend them!
I have had the pleasure of seeing the big V play live a few times. I think they are a great sound, I mean what a voice and they have presence! Up and coming tip for the future I reckon!
The Big V are a talented band, with a very wide range of music. The lyrics to their songs are very well-written.
NOAH are a complete stand out in this line-up.
To see them live is to have hope for new music and purpose.
Everything about them captivates an audience and their latest track ‘Fires’ is, in part, a reflection of their incredible potential.

Nicola Jayne is amazing! She is simply awesome as her songwriting comes from her heart and i feel every word knowing how hard she’s struggled through adversity to turn her feelings into beautiful lyrics. I’m so proud of you Nic, and i’m simply just a fan xx
I’ve done Glasto a few times and I think all of these bands would go down well, but to me Nicola Jayne’s song writing and voice best represent my memories of the festival. Brilliant song….
Nicola Jayne’s song writing and vocals remind me so much of glasto
It would be great to see Nicola Jayne win this, I’ve seen her live before and she would be perfect for Glastonbury
Well that Nicola Jayne is a fine lass and always puts on a good show. Saw her at The Young Pretender in Congleton, Stoke and ive got a few friends going to Glastonbury this year who im sure would love to hear her.
Good Luck Nicola and i hope to see ya down my neck of the woods again soon.
You will be on T.V won’t ya?
I like to chill every now and again as spinning discs most nights can get a bit hectic!!! Seems like nicola jayne should av a bash at Glastonbury if she aint been before. Nothing better than kicking back in the sunshine listening to acoustic music.
Peace out brothers and sisters
Nicola Jayne is amazing and very talented I would love to hear her play!
GO NICOLA!!! >_<
Love,
Kat Xxxx
Nicola Jayne is amazing, a really talented songwriter! She has performed at a small festival that i organise a couple of times and she always gets amazing comments
Nicola Jayne is the genuine article, a lyricist who writes from the heart, pouring compassion and feeling into every line. She’s come up the hard way and deserves every opportunity, has Glasto written through her like a stick of Staffs rock – good luck beautiful, see you there x
The Thirst deserve to win this competition, hands down… not only are their songs catchy as hell, they always put on storming performance every time I have seen them play. They work HARD at what they do, give the boys a shot; Glastonbury would be lucky to have them! x
Really has to be the thirst, they are an amazing band and play so well live
Listened to them all and its a tough choice, just in front for me is the big V but wish them all luck
I first saw The Thirst six years ago and have raved about them ever since, even bringing guys up from Devon to see them at KOKO! Sincere guys, love their craft, and spectacular live. Thoroughly deserve a slot at Glastonbury!
I really hope Nicola Jayne wins this.
Not only is she perfect for Glastonbury, but she is one of the hardest working and most dedicated musician I’ve had the pleasure of meeting.
She will not fail to put on a good show and put 100% into it.
I can’t think I anyone more deserved to win.
The Thirst!!!
I’ll come in Uk from Italy just to c them performing there!
Nicola Jayne gets my vote her music is up lifting she is going to be big name in the near future definitly one to watch out for . Amazing music talent and a beautiful bird with the stage at her feet x Go on let her fly ………
The thirst
The Thirst are awesome! I’ve known their stuff since i was 13 and could never understand why they haven’t made it big yet.
The THIRST at Glasto would be Epic!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have been a big fan of The Thirsts since early last year when a friend first played me some of their material – these guys definitely deserve to be at Glasto this year!
Without a shadow of a doubt this opportunity should go to THE THIRST…their live performances are brilliant and electrifying!!! Don’t believe me check em out on YouTube so u can begin to imagine what they would deliver at Glasto : D
The Thirst are one of the best live bands around, their blend if indie rock combined with soul funk routes are a force to be reckoned with. The should be on the pyramid stage to be honest but get ‘em in and see what happens.
Seen the Thirst live several times always give a100% and get the crowd going, Brilliant song writing, these hard working guys need a break, would be great to see them at Glasto.
Nicola Jayne is a real treat been following her for a while now, Real crowd pleaser, Im going Glastonbury with the Stoke crew and would love to see her!
The Thirst for great music and an amazing stage presence. So listenable and so watchable.
The thirst are my absolute fave band.. They are not only extremely talented with an amazing selection of uplifting and banging tracks.. They are also a really really nice group of gentlemen
I’ve seen The Thirst quite a bit now, they always put in such a big, energetic performance. You need to check out their videos, it’s not the same listening with the still. Their sound is quite unlike anything out there, something to really lose yourself in.
Nicola Jayne is a very delightful, enthusiastic musician! Her songs are fantastic, love watching her play live too. Totally different from just listening, you can see the emotions running out of her! Really hope she gets a place at Glastonbury, she deserves it!
Good luck Nicola!
x
my vote goes to Nicola Jayne with up lifting music talent she is a beautiful bird Go on let her fly as Nicola Jayne is going to be big and I wish her luck and success . The amazing mix of musical talent and lovely personality makes a star who lights up any stage with such excitement and rememberable tunes Vote Nicola Jayne x

Nicola is one of the most hard working and determined people I have ever met and she really does have it all, her live performance is electric.
If your looking for someone to storm the stage with image, attitude and amazing songs look no further Nicola Jayne is an artist who blows you away more and more each time, a true star xxx
I love Nicola Jayne her music is fresh and her stage shows are always crowd pleasing see you in Glastonbury go girl
I have seen Nicola Jayne on multiple occasions and she has performed brilliantly each and every time! She wont let us down here, either! My vote goes to her.
Nicola Jayne with a doubt
Nicola Jayne all the way!!!!!!!!!!!!! See you in Glastonbury x
I find it odd that Jim Lockey and The Solemn Sun are including on this, as they are signed to a great independent label, and have a really good booking agent, so seems strange that they are entered in this, when they have the means to get a slot at Glastonbury, without this. Having said that, I really like them, so hope they do get to play.
Gotta be the Thirst for me, saw them live last year and loved them. They will not let you down! Book ‘Em!!!!!
Nicola Jayne is testament to the youth of today. Fresh sound and lyrics which make people stop and think, She has had to work hard to get where she is today and I feel privileged to have listened to her music in these early stages, good luck to her
The Thirst are the best band to emerge from London in the last 20 year – period.
Nicola Jayne without a doubt ! This young lady really deserves to go far.Her perfornances are so heartfelt, she is her music and her music is her.Nicola Jayne is dedicated and has never wavered from her simple dream to share the love in her music with the whole wide world.Glastonbury would certainly be even brighter with Nicola Jayne performing
The Thirst. I have followed these guys for years and each time I hear them live i am completely blissful, grinning from ear to ear as I bounce to their eclectic welcoming sound. To hear them at Glastonbury would be the ultimate joy. The crowds will be grooving so good Glastonbury will be the bestest most on the pulse festival in the world. there is a great potential in The Thirst they are a band people will talk about forever. So definitely has to be The Thirst.
I’m a total fan of Nikki Jayne! I’ve seen her play live loads of times and you can just feel the words coming straight from her heart.
She lives an breathes what Glasto needs. Quote that.
“Go get ‘em Nic!” xx
The Big V are an AMAZING band with a wide range of wicked songs, definately a band to look out for and they are all very good- looking too which is a bonus!!! They would make the Glasto line-up complete and bring something new, special and interesting to the table. VOTE FOR THEM!!!!
Thirst are doing it for me – indie funk – perfect for a sunny Glastonbury
The thirst – on the brink is one of my fav albums. It’s amazing.
Nicola Churnside, what can I say, I’ve been an encouraging fan since she was about 17. In an age where the music industry is dominated by superficiality, top man hair cuts, and rock n roll cliches it is a pleasure to hear a young lady give us something that is honest, believable, and truly expressive, and art that only pays homage to most intrinsic of influence. How can your bird be so caged but sing so freely : )
It’s no surprise to see The Big V on your shortlist, the word talented doesn’t even begin to describe them. Top band and brilliant live. If it was my shortlist, they would have already won!
The thirst… Pure talent!
The thirst… Pure talent!
The Hypnotic Bitter Sweet sounds from the The Big V never fail to capture me with a distinguished, fresh vengeaful eagerness to voice Something. Anything. Everything. They toooo cooooool!
The Thirst are seriously awesome! Every time I see them live or there tunes come on my phone I am happy!! They get the crowd going without fail!!! Xxx
By all your varied comments so far you can see the hard job i have to make my final choice of three acts. i would like to thank everyone who has taken the time out to comment so far the response has been overwhelming THANK YOU !!
If I could fly over from the states I would love to go to Glastonbury… a lot of my friends have been, love the vibe and say great things about it. I like your blog Mark and I think you have a very hard decision to make. They’re all good choices in their own right… Noah have a lovely vocal tone and Verity Susman is a pleasing and interesting soundscape and my favourite would probably be The Big V Murder Song for the overall composition. Great choices Mark!
Newman John your comment has made my day it’s refreshing to read such a well thought out balanced view point
Loving The Thirst! As always, great song guys xx
So much all the way from Dubai

My vote would go to The Thirst. I first saw them at The Brixton Academy supporting The Sex Pistols. They completely blew me away and i’m sure they made some other fans that night too. They are original and great musicians who would be an asset to The Glastonbury line up.
The Big V are fantastic live, and very well written songs would suggest everyone gives them a listen.

Bird in a cage is brilliant, it has such a lovely dark ambience to it

THE THIRST are one of the best live bands I’ve seen in a while. They rock!
100,000% behind Nicola Jayne – she’s an amazing artist, who can command the stage and keep the crowd enthralled. She’s enthusiastic and full of talent and a brilliant artist and personal generally! She definitely deserves a chance at Glasto!
Let’s have loads of support for Nicola Jayne! She is an absolute star in the making, so talented and an amazing voice!
I’ve followed Nicci music for over 18 months and she blows me away every time I hear he sing and perform with her guitar and harmonica, Nicci so talented and a great role model. She is so grateful to all her fans and never shy of supporting other bands as a fan herself Xx

Loving the Big V! First time I’ve heard them. Awesome sound.
The Big V – great to see emerging talent
THE THIRST are bloody special, I am producer from London who has always paid attention to the live scene. I came across these guys @ 333 Shoreditch. They are something else…The track you posted of theirs is a hit! Respect to the other acts as well but The Thirst does it. Good luck.
Re The Big V….Love the Lyrics and the singer what a voice
The Big V . Love this band . Great band live . Amazing voice and guitar .

The Thirst are AMAZING!!!! . I have seen them live before and I would love to see them in Glastonbury.
Big V – lovely weave of sounds, piano highlights and of course the voice. Lyrics good.
I would be so pleased to see Nicola Jayne rightfully gain her spot at Glasto.
The deep emotion and feeling that she puts into her music, I feel would create such a mesmerising atmosphere. She truly deserves such a larger fan base as there are so many people yet to discover her natural talent.
NJ to win!
So happy to see that my great friend Nicola Jayne is on this shortlist!!!
I have known her since I was 4 years old, and I know from a true friend’s perspective that it would be her absolute dream to be a part of Glasto!!
Even from just watching her play in her living room, to seeing her play at Stoke’s Sugarmill, and other local venues, I can say, without a doubt, she sure knows how to handle a crowd and put on an amazing performance!
…She truly deserves it! <3 xxx
From seeing the words that she writes and watching her perform, I know that she puts her heart and soul into everything she does
So best wishes and Good Luck to Nicci…and please please please let her play Glasto
My goodness thank you all so much for all the love you have shown your favourites so far feedback like this means a great deal to myself and Steve
The thirst has blessed us with another banger. Saw them live a couple of years back at 93 feet East (brick lane). They just seem to be getting better and better awesome track.
Came here with the intention of voting for the thirst, but after listening to all the entries i found myself blown away by the big V. haven’t heard a voice like that in a long time. I’ve spent the last two hours on their soundcloud and there’s some incredible stuff there – they’re the first band to really get me excited this year. the thirst are fantastic but the big V have really got something, and from what i’ve heard, they’d fit in perfectly at glasto.
Thanks for such an honest appraisal
the Big V all day. they’ve got a really unique sound and incredible vocals and guitar

THE THIRST – first saw the Thirst supporting Pete Doherty on Whitechapel road. They tore the place up crowd went mad for it. South London’s finest will smash Glastonbury fo’sure. So just make sure they’re there Xx
the big V have a great sound: fabulous vocals, haunting lyrics and a superb all round ensemble
The big V, definitely.
I’m all for the thirst!
The big v……class!!!!
The Thirst are AMAZING live so you have to pick them. Very much looking forward to Glastonbury this year and it would be great to see them there too!!!
I’ve had a really cool time checking out these bands on youtube, reading reviews, talking to friends etc, and to be honest, although I wasn’t a big fan of any of them, I’ve definitely enjoyed the experience. They all have very unique and entertaining strengths so irrespective of which one is selected, this process has unequivocally given them all invaluable exposure and new fans. That said, based on entertainment, charisma, stage presence, the collective opinion of my circle of friends, and the direction we see music moving in over the forthcoming 18 months. We would probably select ‘The Thirst’ as the band that would best put this competition on on the map and go on to do great things. The others, e.g. Verity Susman, definitely have the ability to follow….
That’s a great well thought out comment, the great thing about this competition is that it takes you out of your comfort zone as a blogger. I have to select three from these six bearing in mind I started out with 200 acts on my playlist they all deserve a listen. Each one of us has our favourite genres etc , I have to try to set that aside for the purposes of this judging. In 2011 I put through an act I though had no chance but they made the live final at Pilton and secured a slot at the festival. Luckily I still have two weeks to pick my three
THE THIRST, what more could anyone ask for, amazing track, great live band, glastonbury needs these guys!
I’d love to see The Big V play, very few bands manage to mix up so many different sounds and still manage to stay unique, they would really stand out from the crowd.
BTW moderator, your link to The Big V facebook page is broken, should be this https://www.facebook.com/TheBigVmusic (delete this comment, it’s just for you)
cheers

Nicola Jayne has really caught my eye. I believe she would beautifully compliment a sunset at glasto with a pint of strawberry cider! Truly beautiful voice on the bird in a cage song, and so versatile when looking at her over songs. Would love to see her at Glasto this year!
The THIRST!!! to not have them there would be a massive error!! They are fresh and would quench anyone’s dry throat!
