So this weekend has been spent trawling through the 200 entries on my playlist for the Glastonbury ETC. I would like to say that personally it’s been a pleasure to listen to all the entries. I blogged ten of the ones which caught my eye initially on Thursday evening but feel it’s only fair to let you all know early doors that I will be picking three from the six artists below. I will be running in depth profiles on all six over the course of the next couple of weeks. With all competitions like this there are winners and losers it’s the nature of the beast and after all we can only pick three from 200. So after much soul searching and repeated listens to a good twenty of so acts I can reveal we have narrowed it down to the following six. Again i would stress that we will not be making contact with any of the acts personally but would welcome your comments on them. I think you will all agree it’s going to be a difficult choice to pick the final three and it’s by no means cast in stone who we will pick !! I have listed the artists from A-Z below

Jim Lockey and The Solemn Sun

Website Here

Nicola Jayne

Website HERE

Noah

Website HERE

The Big V

Website HERE

The Thirst

website HERE

Verity Susman

website HERE

Would be great if you spread the love on these artists as i previously said it’s going to be a hard job to pick my final three but i hope you enjoy our shortlist. Our choices will appear first on the official Glastonbury website HERE sometime at the end of February.

Great selection of bands!! I have seen the thirst perform on several ooccasions and I can honestly say I have never seen a band as good as them! Their songs are refreshingly good, and they have infectious energy when on stage. They are deserving of this opportunity!!!

The Thirst are the all round complete band. Their songs are so creative with meaning. Their stage presence is so magnetic and fresh. 2013 is their year to shine and to receive their blessings. If they are not selected, Glastonbury will not be complete this year and a large section of visitors will be robbed of seeing pure talent in full effect :)

I find it odd that Jim Lockey and The Solemn Sun are including on this, as they are signed to a great independent label, and have a really good booking agent, so seems strange that they are entered in this, when they have the means to get a slot at Glastonbury, without this. Having said that, I really like them, so hope they do get to play.

Nicola Churnside, what can I say, I’ve been an encouraging fan since she was about 17. In an age where the music industry is dominated by superficiality, top man hair cuts, and rock n roll cliches it is a pleasure to hear a young lady give us something that is honest, believable, and truly expressive, and art that only pays homage to most intrinsic of influence. How can your bird be so caged but sing so freely : )

I like your blog Mark and I think you have a very hard decision to make. THE THIRST are bloody special, I am producer from London who has always paid attention to the live scene. I came across these guys @ 333 Shoreditch. They are something else…The track you posted of theirs is a hit! Respect to the other acts as well but The Thirst does it. Good luck.

I would be so pleased to see Nicola Jayne rightfully gain her spot at Glasto.
The deep emotion and feeling that she puts into her music, I feel would create such a mesmerising atmosphere. She truly deserves such a larger fan base as there are so many people yet to discover her natural talent.

    NJ to win!

So happy to see that my great friend Nicola Jayne is on this shortlist!!! :D I have known her since I was 4 years old, and I know from a true friend’s perspective that it would be her absolute dream to be a part of Glasto!!
From seeing the words that she writes and watching her perform, I know that she puts her heart and soul into everything she does :) Even from just watching her play in her living room, to seeing her play at Stoke’s Sugarmill, and other local venues, I can say, without a doubt, she sure knows how to handle a crowd and put on an amazing performance! :)
So best wishes and Good Luck to Nicci…and please please please let her play Glasto :P …She truly deserves it! <3 xxx

Came here with the intention of voting for the thirst, but after listening to all the entries i found myself blown away by the big V. haven’t heard a voice like that in a long time. I’ve spent the last two hours on their soundcloud and there’s some incredible stuff there – they’re the first band to really get me excited this year. the thirst are fantastic but the big V have really got something, and from what i’ve heard, they’d fit in perfectly at glasto.

I’ve had a really cool time checking out these bands on youtube, reading reviews, talking to friends etc, and to be honest, although I wasn’t a big fan of any of them, I’ve definitely enjoyed the experience. They all have very unique and entertaining strengths so irrespective of which one is selected, this process has unequivocally given them all invaluable exposure and new fans. That said, based on entertainment, charisma, stage presence, the collective opinion of my circle of friends, and the direction we see music moving in over the forthcoming 18 months. We would probably select ‘The Thirst’ as the band that would best put this competition on on the map and go on to do great things. The others, e.g. Verity Susman, definitely have the ability to follow….

    • Mark 11/02/2013 · Reply

That’s a great well thought out comment, the great thing about this competition is that it takes you out of your comfort zone as a blogger. I have to select three from these six bearing in mind I started out with 200 acts on my playlist they all deserve a listen. Each one of us has our favourite genres etc , I have to try to set that aside for the purposes of this judging. In 2011 I put through an act I though had no chance but they made the live final at Pilton and secured a slot at the festival. Luckily I still have two weeks to pick my three

I’d love to see The Big V play, very few bands manage to mix up so many different sounds and still manage to stay unique, they would really stand out from the crowd.
