In 2011 I was honoured to be asked to be one of the 40 bloggers who judged the ETC it was at times an almost surreal experience to trawl through a couple of hundred tracks by up and coming artists. Sure I listened to pretty dire material by bands simply not ready for a slot at what is after all the worlds best known music festival. Picking my three for the longlist having whittled the 200 down to 10 likely candidates was a soul searching affair. I felt guilty about the ones I left out but eventually I got there, imagine my surprise and pleasure when one of the acts I picked made the final eight !! Suddenly all the hours seemed to be worthwhile I was invited down to the final in Pilton which was beamed live from the Glastonbury website. Though if you are lucky enough to be an act that makes it through there is nothing to fear and everything to gain even if you don’t win as unfortunately Louise & The Pins didn’t you will make so many contacts within the industry it will somewhat temper the initial disappointment. I would urge all up and coming acts to submit a track to this as it’s run and judged by people who care about new music initially us bloggers then the panel that consists of Michael and Emily Eavis amongst others. I for one was turned onto several artists through the process who i have written about and grown to love as i am sure many of the other bloggers have been as well. Best of all it’s completely free both in monetary terms and agenda wise it’s just a great chance to play the best festival in the world so get entering !! N.B Entries close this Thursday 24th Jan so get cracking !
