Bebe Black- Introducing
Having featured as guest vocalist on the Benga track Icon this Dorset songstress is stepping into the limelight having secured a deal with Columbia her debut E.P Deathwish drops on 21st Jan to be honest i have only been privy to the title track, i’m not sure if it is representative of the E.P as a whole. However it’s certainly strong enough to warrant more than a cursory glance, although it seeps of La Roux ala ‘In For The Kill’ the vocal has more scope reminding me in no small part of both Florence and Saint Saviour.Citing Courtney Love, old-school Madonna, Siouxsie Sioux and Kate Bush as her influences
Bebe said: “Each track on the EP is about grief and anguish, sex and love. They were written as a confession and a release, which I found cathartic. I wanted the tracks to be rhythmic and sexual sounding, but when you scratch beneath the surface you find something honest and raw.”
It’s difficult to make a judgement on this one offering but it would be no surprise to me if Deathwish was picked up and remixed to become a real dancefloor anthem I look forward to seeing how many strings there are to her bow
